"Military Energy, Fuels and Power Source Market to be Worth $43.05bn in 2012" Says Visiongain's Report

London, United Kingdom, October 18, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Visiongain author of the Military Energy, Fuels and Power Source report comments that: "Defence spending on fuel and energy is becoming an increasingly important factor at a stage when power is shifting towards a global system of competing antagonists. Concerns over energy security and the spectre of ‘peak oil’ will provide the background to one of the most pertinent markets in the defence industry today, while developing energy and fuel technolo...... continue reading

Growth in Global Oil Market Slows

Washington, D.C. ----Global oil consumption increased by 0.7 percent in 2011 to reach an all-time high of 88.03 million barrels per day, according to new research conducted by the Worldwatch Institute ( www.worldwatch.org ) for its  Vital Signs Online  service. This rate of increase was considerably slower than in 2010, when oil consumption rose by 3.3 percent following a decline of 1.3 percent in 2009 due to the global financial crisis. Gas or Diesel?

By Ed Ritchie As distributed energy continues to grow in commercial applications, internal combustion engines remain the dominant driver of generation sets. And despite the argument for more sustainable methods such as wind, solar, and fuel cells, internal combustion has the advantage economically. When paired with high efficiency combined heat and power applications, they’re more than likely to maintain a commanding market share for years to come. But that doesn’t mean manufacturers are resting on thei...... continue reading

Cash and Consequences

By Elizabeth Cutright

Just in time for the upcoming presidential election, the rhetoric is (predictably) heating up. One ongoing target of pundits and politicians is renewable energy and its place in US energy landscape. The tide continues to ebb and flow on this subject, with support rising and retreating in response to economic conditions and natural catastrophes. The Deep Water Horizon calamity in the Gulf swung the pendulum away from fossil fuels and Japan’s ongoing struggle with its nuclear facilities after last year’s ...... continue reading

A Powerful Partnership

By Elizabeth Cutright

The imbalance between cost and benefit is often touted as the main obstacle to widespread implementation of renewable energy. And that alternative energy price tag always looks particularly eye-popping when compared the expenses associated with fossil fuels. It’s the lure of the low-cost option that keeps us at hovering near number one on the list of the world’s largest consumers of fossil fuels ( www.wri.org/stories/2006/11/fossil-fuel-consumption-and-its-implications ). By focusing on current use to e...... continue reading

Sustainability Plus

By Don Albinger, Tricia Kuse

There is much more to renewable energy than saving fossil fuels and improving carbon emissions. Because water and energy are closely connected, technologies like wind and solar power, digester-gas-to-energy, and geothermal heating and cooling also help make optimal use of increasingly stressed water resources. Just 10% of an iceberg appears above the water. Similarly, the electricity used in a building may represent just one-tenth of the energy actually released back at the utility power plant. Why? Fro...... continue reading

Extremely Efficient

By Elizabeth Cutright

Are you feeling overwhelmed? It’s certainly hard to avoid a sense of hopelessness while watching the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico— www.ustream.tv/pbsnewshour . At first, you’re hit with the visuals: the gushing pipe, the slick that can be seen from space, and the birds struggling under thick layers of crude. And then, the questions come: How did this happen; what must we do to make this stop; and how can we protect ourselves from future catastrophes? Before we attempt to answer any of those questions,...... continue reading
