ST. PAUL, Minn. (March 26, 2012) – 3M is on the speakers’ docket at the Energy Efficiency Global Forum and joined by energy experts from all over the world to share strides the industry is making in the energy efficiency space. 3M’s Dr. Steven Hedrick, technical director, Renewable Energy Division, will join a panel of experts to address attendees on pioneering technologies that are paving the way for the future. Hedrick will speak on Public and Private Partnerships: Accelerating Energy Efficiency Solutions through Innovation and Awareness.

Co-Hosted by the Alliance to Save Energy and the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance, EE Global convenes world-class business, technology, government and policy leaders to address the latest technological breakthroughs, policy advances and research tied to energy efficiency. The conference will be held in Orlando, Florida, with participants representing 35 nations.

“3M is pleased to have a place at the table to dialogue about clean energy at the world’s premiere conference,” said Hedrick. “We have established at 3M 46 core technologies at the disposal of our highly inventive people allowing us to develop solutions for the next generation. It’s all about understanding and connecting with those in the industry who are at the forefront of moving the nation towards renewable forms of energy.”

In addition to being a member of the speakers’ panel, 3M will also highlight at the EE Global Solutions Showcase 3M Prestige Exterior Window Film. Based on nanotechnology consisting of hundreds of ultra-thin, non-metalized layers – in total, less than the thickness of one Post-it® Note – these films provide superior heat control and glare reduction while preserving exterior and interior window views. For example, Exterior PR 90 has the highest visible light transmission available for sun control window films in the market, reducing the amount of sunlight entering the building by at most one percent while nearly doubling the amount of solar energy rejected on a single pane of quarter-inch thick clear glass, significantly improving internal temperatures.

Through a Life Cycle Assessment from raw material acquisition through end-of-life disposal, Prestige Exterior Window Film becomes carbon neutral within one month of installation. In addition, the film ideally complements low-e glass performance preserving its function in cold weather climates.

First launched in Europe last year, 3M Prestige Exterior Film is the product of choice on the official residence of the United States Ambassador to Belgium, following a comprehensive renovation of the 230-year-old structure.

Prestige Exterior film is just one solution in 3M’s vast portfolio of sun control, security and automotive window films designed to help lower customers’ energy costs and provide an accelerated return on investment.

Besides its comprehensive portfolio of window films, 3M boasts an array of energy generation solutions derived from the company’s expertise in optical science. In 2011 alone, the company introduced 3M Ultrabarrier Film, 3M Cool Mirror Film and 3M Scotchshield Film Black Backsheet – all new alternatives for solar panel manufacturers. 3M’s Renewable Energy Division continues to reach new markets with next-generation technologies that can reduce cost per watt and offer practical solutions that can reduce energy consumption in the home and workplace.
