EPRI Announces Leadership Changes

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- (September 13, 2010) – The Electric Power Research Institute has announced two executive appointments within its leadership team.
Arshad Mansoor, currently vice president of EPRI’s Power Delivery and Utilization (PDU) Sector, was named senior vice president of research and development. In addition to assuming the new role, which is effective immediately, Mansoor will serve in an “acting” capacity in his former role until a replacement is named.
Chris Larsen will become senior vice president of operations effective in October. Larsen currently is vice president and general manager of the Nuclear Division of Control Components, Inc., an international energy engineering company based in California.
In announcing the appointments, EPRI President and CEO Michael Howard cited Mansoor’s and Larsen’s “broad industry experience and proven track records for performance.”
“Today’s electricity industry is seeking advancement and innovation in every major technological area,” said Howard. “The driving forces of research and development require EPRI to move swiftly and effectively on many fronts. Arshad and Chris have demonstrated the ability to capably lead and direct organizations, and to help the industry address its many technological and operational challenges.”
In his new role, Mansoor will oversee EPRI’s portfolio of research, development and demonstration programs, spanning renewable, fossil, and nuclear generation; transmission and distribution; energy efficiency; electric transportation; and the environment. Annual funding for these programs exceeds $350 million.
As vice president of PDU since 2006, Mansoor led research, development and application of transmission distribution and energy utilization technologies. Previously he was vice president of an EPRI subsidiary, EPRI Solutions, and before that he was vice president and director of engineering for the EPRI Power Electronics Applications Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
As EPRI’s senior vice president of operations Larsen will direct the institute’s business operations. Before taking his current position at CCI, Larsen was vice president of EPRI’s Nuclear Sector, and prior to that he served as vice president of EPRI’s Generation Sector. He also spent 11 years at GE Nuclear, where as general manager of reactor services he was responsible for providing inspections, outage services, and reactor modifications of nuclear plants world wide.
