WALTHAM, MA, May 3, 2012 —Tecogen Inc. today announced that two of its Tecogen CM-75 cogen units will be installed as part of a renovation project in the Far Rockaway area of Queens, New York City. The Tecogen natural gas powered systems will provide electricity, space heating and domestic hot water for two Oceanview Apartment buildings which are more than three-and-a-half decades old and in need of comprehensive maintenance and major systems replacement.

This renovation project is part of a larger state-wide New Housing Marketplace Plan (NHMP) --Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s multibillion dollar initiative to finance 165,000 units of affordable housing for half a million New Yorkers by the close of the 2014 fiscal year.

"We chose Tecogen because of its reliable product quality and support," said Gregg Giampaolo, president of All Systems Cogeneration Inc., the general contractor for the Oceanview Apartments renovation project. "Tecogen is known for its low-emissions technology breakthroughs. Not only does Tecogen provide a bridge to a sustainable energy future, but its products support an affordable operating model. We anticipate that the Tecogen modules will deliver savings of about $80,000 a year."

Tecogen CM-75 modules are fully ETL-labeled to the relevant UL standards. They are further certified in New York under California’s Electric Rule 21 which qualifies them for simplified electrical interconnection with local electric utilities. System options include an ultra-low emissions control package, which allows these units to obtain local air permits in all parts of the country, as well as outdoor enclosures. CM-75 modules come fully pre-packaged from the factory, including engine, generator, oil/ jacket/ exhaust heat recovery, controls, electrical switchgear, emissions controls, and modem for remote monitoring and data-logging. This factory pre-packaging allows for standardization and minimizes installation cost and complexity in the field.

"New York City is at the forefront of exciting new environmentally conscious projects," said Robert Panora, president and chief operating officer of Tecogen. "This one is not only committed to long-term preservation of affordable housing, but by implementing combined heat and power technology, it is helping preserve precious resources."
