The average Distributed Energy subscriber.

Thanks to our 2010 reader survey, we not only know who’s reading our magazine, but whether or not we’re hitting the mark in terms of what our readers want, and expect, from our editorial content. While some may say, “no news is good news,” we believe that having an open dialogue with our audience—and being held accountable by the folks we’re committed to serve—makes all news “good news.”

And, after reading the results of our 2010 reader survey, I am heartened not only by all the positive comments we received from individual readers, but also by the advice and in-depth commentary many of you took the time to convey. Best of all, it turns out that, for a majority of our subscribers, Distributed Energy is the first stop for relevant and important articles on all aspects of onsite power and energy efficiency. We are always striving to provide the best and most up-to-date information, and we plan on using the results of this survey to make sure we continue to provide you with the excellent stories and technology updates you’ve come to expect, while always working on fine-tuning and improving the content within the pages of our magazine.

Whether or not you are involved with providing energy-related products and services or tasked with managing your organization’s energy use—and the survey shows our readership is evenly split between those two camps—it’s clear that Distributed Energy is a valuable tool in your arsenal. In fact, almost 75% of you responsible for energy management and purchasing told us that you have taken action—including purchasing equipment or visiting a product-related Web site—as a direct result of reading an issue of our magazine. Additionally, more than two-thirds of you say that Distributed Energy is better or much better than comparable publications, hitting a high mark when it comes to keeping you informed and up to date on industry-specific technology or trends, and providing you with practical information you can use to help your organization be more efficient and profitable.

But we promise not to sit on our laurels. All the information in the survey—including the topics you’ve indicated you’d like to see more of and the types of projects and programs you’d like to learn more about—will inform our future content. Our job is to provide you with clear, relevant, and topical information that will help you make informed decisions and allow you to strategize in order to improve the efficiency, reliability, and cost-benefit ratio of your power systems.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to respond to our survey. We value your input, and we will study and act on the overall survey results, as well as the individual comments we received, in order to make sure we can continue to provide you with all the content you expect and desire. And as I said earlier, we are always working towards providing an open dialogue with our readers, so please feel free to drop me a line and let me know how we’re doing, and what stories or topics you think would be a good fit by sending an e-mail to ecutright@forester.net.
