SAN ANTONIO, TX (February 22, 2012) –San Antonio Energy Champions, a program established by Champion AC to educate the public about the importance of energy efficiency, announced the call for submissions for its inaugural Energy Champions Building Competition today. The competition is a new aspect of the SAEC initiative and will provide businesses and buildings in San Antonio the chance to improve their energy efficiency and move the city toward a greener future. The competition will begin on Sun., April 1.

The rules are straightforward – the building that demonstrates the greatest percentage-based reduction in weather-normalized energy use intensity during the 12-month performance period will be recognized as the inaugural winner. Measurements will be made by percentage of reduction of kwH. Each participating entity will be required to send a copy of the monthly kwH reading on its energy bill (or a copy of the full bill) to the San Antonio Energy Champions contact. The bills will not be shared publicly, in order to preserve privacy for the companies. The only public information will be the overall percentage change in kwH for the year. There is no registration fee for the competition, and the final registration deadline is March 24, 2012. Entry forms can be found online at sanantonioenergychampions.com.

“Our overall goal for the competition is to support San Antonio in leading Texas toward a more energy efficient future supporting the efforts of the Mayor’s SA 2020 plan and CPS's efforts to save energy across the city,” said San Antonio Energy Champions founder, Ben Hubbert.

The contest will run through the year, with an end date of Sun., March 31, 2013.
