Nexterra Biomass Gasification System Wins Globe Award For Technology Innovation And Application

Nexterra Energy Corp., the Vancouver-based biomass gasification company, whose technology converts waste biomass into clean-burning "syngas" to displace fossil fuels, has won the prestigious GLOBE Award for Technology Innovation and Application at the internationally recognized GLOBE Awards for Environmental Excellence. The award was presented to Nexterra’s CEO Jonathan Rhone by Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, Gary Lunn.

Judged by a panel of experts recognized in the Canadian business community, the GLOBE Awards celebrate outstanding achievement in environmental stewardship. The awards were presented at a gala dinner on Thursday, March 13, held in conjunction with GLOBE 2008, the 10th biennial trade fair and conference on business and the environment.

Nexterra's technology has demonstrated to customers that they can reduce costs and become more energy self-efficient, while significantly lowering greenhouse gas emissions and harmful air contaminants from some of the largest point source industries and institutions in North American communities. Nexterra is developing new market applications through powerful relationships with industry leaders, including Johnson Controls, Domtar, Tolko Industries, Dockside Green and Pristine Power.

The criteria for the Technology Innovation and Application Award includes: Excellence in translating innovation concepts into successful commercial production; success in developing or applying technology that acts to substantially reduce environmental impacts, while contributing to overall efficiency and operational improvement; and an ability to adapt or apply technology to meet changing environmental priorities and applications.

Other nominees for the Technology Innovation and Application Award included the Ford Motor Company of Canada (manufacturing plant emission reduction), Paradigm Environmental Technologies Inc. (wastewater treatment) and Trojan Technologies (water disinfection systems).
