Tough Taylor Generators Employ FPT Engines
Taylor has been a name in reliable, heavy-duty equipment and parts for over 80 years. The auxiliary and standby power generator division, Taylor Power Systems, uses only the highest quality components and engines for their gen-sets. Today, Taylor's trusted units are operating in some of the most hostile environments on Earth, from Death Valley with blazing 140°F heat and blinding sand storms to being fastened under 18-wheelers with jarring potholes, punishing rains and damaging salt spray.
When the former engines employed in Taylor's 250-300 kW Mobile and 250-350 kW Industrial Diesel Standby Generator Sets didn't meet emission requirements, they had to find new, dependable power plants to replace them. With the help of Laborde Products, Taylor Power Systems now has state-of-the-art Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT), previously Iveco, engines installed in their resilient units.
"We started doing research looking for dependable, alternative engines and found FPT and Laborde," said Tommy Smith, Taylor's director of manufacturing. "Laborde was easy to work with and FPT was the answer we were searching for."
Taylor custom builds trailers specially designed for transporting their generator sets with maximum safety at highway speeds. Ideal for municipalities, these mobile systems are available from 20-300 kW. At the more powerful end, the TM250 features a FPT Cursor C87 TE1D engine and the TM300 uses a C10 TE1D. The complete, ready-to-run gen-sets include a heavy-duty, weather enclosure with hinged doors, storage trunk, analog control panel, integral fuel tank, safety shutdown system and jacks on the tongue and rear.
The Industrial Diesel Standby Generators Sets are offered from 9-2,000 kW. They are available in open, weather enclosed and sound-attuned models with a wide variety of optional equipment. The DS250M3 gen-set also has a C87 TE1D engine. The DS300M3 uses a C10 TE1D and the 350 kW DS350M3 employs a C13 TE3X. Incredibly versatile, the powerful units contain a digital control panel, high ambient cooling system, brushless alternator and skid base.
"We are very happy with the FPT engines," said Smith. "The ease of application is amazing. They're the simplest engines to install and startup of any engines I've worked with."
EPA certified, the diesel, 6-cylinder FPT engines are energy efficient and easy to maintain. At 1,800 rpm, the C87 produces 251 kW prime and 276 kW standby while the C10 delivers 282 kW prime and 311 kW standby. The C13 provides 362 kW at 1,800 prime and 398 kW at standby.
For over 25 years, Laborde Products has distributed a wide range of high-quality products and parts to the industrial and marine markets. The company offers FPT, Mitsubishi, Yanmar and Hatz diesel engines and also packages their own diesel-powered equipment under Diesel America.
