The hospital serves about 12,000 people in Watervliet (population 1,843), and four other small towns nearby: Bangor, Coloma, Hartford, and Paw Paw Lake.
Watervliet nestles beside Interstate Highway 94 on the Chicago-Detroit corridor in northern Berrien County, Michigan, where tourism and agriculture drive the local economy.

Nearby Paw Paw Lake attracts boaters and fishermen, and the area occupies the heart of southwest Michigan’s fruit belt. Its fertile soils and abundant moisture wafting in from Lake Michigan on prevailing westerly winds provide ideal growing conditions for orchards and vineyards. Watervliet receives an annual average of 36.3 inches of precipitation, 10.3% more than Chicago on the opposite side of the lake.
